Quality Free Stuff from the netUpdated: Nov 13, 2013 10:00am
Free stuff is easy to come by. Quality free stuff isn't. In life there are "ways" to get what you want. We all know that asking nicely might not do the trick so we bristle our fur and make stuff happen. Free stuff is no different, you just have to find the right ways and places to get it.
FreeCycle and Craigslist are good places to start. Craigslist has a freebies sections and FreeCycle is all about free stuff. Depending on what you are looking for, you can follow a few easy steps to ensure your free stuff isn't free junk (we've all picked something up and delivered it to a dumpster).
On freeCycle and Craigslist you can ask the right questions to ensure, to the best of your ability, that the loot is free from defects or free enough to be worth your time. But first, you want them to choose you to pick up their free stuff. Asking too many questions will put you at the bottom of the free stuff list.
To be picked you should reply first, so watch for the freebies that interest you. Reply as soon as you know it is the free item you would want to go pick up. Say something like, "I can pick up right now" or "I would love to pick up your free widget". Short and sweet will get you to the front of the "no money required" line.
If you are picked, ask for a phone number. Call them right away or as soon as they say they are available. Ask them direct and to the point questions about the free item. Be honest if you really are not interested in picking up their freebie. You never know when you will be the second in line to pick up free stuff.
